9/16 VIP Picks

Great Saturday for us yesterday and I am ready for NFL Sunday Week 2! Let’s get right into the fucking picks for today!!

Straight up “Against the spread”

Patriots (-2) - The “Rematch” of the AFC Championship game from last year and it’s only week two! The Jaguars had a double digit second half lead in last year’s AFC Title game but of course Tom Brady led a comeback and the Patriots moved on to represent the AFC in the Superbowl. I was at that game. The biggest thing about the Jaguars blowing that lead was the fact that they weren’t aggressive enough on offense and to be quite frank, it’s because they can’t be. This offense is a run the ball offense and you can’t count on Blake Bortles to throw the ball around and keep up with Tom Brady. The Jaguars have to control the clock, run the ball, and play good defense. Leonard Fournette is listed as a game time decision for this game after he suffered a hamstring injury last week against the Giants. If Fournette is out, the Jags will be relying on TJ Yeldon. The Patriots are coming off of a 27-20 win against the Texans. There has been a lot of talk by Jalen Ramsey this week about how he is going to shut down Gronk and I am anxious to see how that plays out. Ramsey can’t guard Gronk 1 on 1 but if he tries, I think Gronk will have a huge day. The Patriots did what they always do in week 1 and they spread the offense around to different guys. I think we will see more of the same today and that will keep this good Jags D off balance. I just don’t see the Jags offense being able to keep up with the Pats offense even if the Jags D slows them down. I like the Pats to win this one on the road.

Chargers (-7.5) - The Chargers lost their home opener last week to the Chiefs and they will go on the road today. Luckily, they will be going on the road to take on the Buffalo Bills (who I think Bama would beat) and rookie QB Josh Allen will be making his first NFL start. One thing that I don’t like about this matchup is that the Bills will most likely rely heavily on the run and I don’t think they will put Allen in situations  where he has to force the ball down the field. This Chargers defense ranked 31st against the run last year so I think McCoy will have a big day. With that said, this Bills team gave up 47 points to the Ravens last week. Joe Flacco was able to throw for three touchdowns. I think Phillip Rivers will have himself a day against this Bills defense and I just don’t see how the Bills offense can keep up with the Chargers today. I have the Chargers winning this one by double digits.

Chiefs (+5.5) - Le’Veon Bell is still holding out and pissing away money to try and cash in on a new contract. I don’t care what anyone says, this shit is affecting the Steelers locker room. This Chiefs team looked GREAT last week on the road against the LA Chargers. The Steelers allowed the Browns to run for 177 yards last week which ranked 30th in the league. Steelers fans protect your girls because I’m expecting a Kareem Pie today. He should absolutely run all over this defense which will help this Chiefs offense click and open things up down the field for Pat Mahomes. The Steelers offense is completely different without Bell in the backfield. I know his replacement scored twice last week but he doesn’t have the impact that Bell does on every single play. I like the Chiefs with the points today and I may even hop on the moneyline.

Saints / Browns Over (49.5) - The Saints scored 40 points last week - and lost the game. They allowed 48 points and 417 passing yards to the Bucs offense led by Ryan Fitzpatrick. I am seeing this game today being one of the highest scoring games of the week and I think this one will be a track meet for both squads. Over. Over. Over.

Teasers: Play in groups of 2 - in order of confidence:

Chargers (-1.5)

Panthers (+12)

Patriots (+4)

49ers (0)

Broncos (-0.5)

Chiefs (+11.5)

Lions / 49ers Over (42.5)

Drew Brees - He should throw all over the Browns today.

Phillip Rivers - He had 51 passing attempts last week and he will be playing a Bills defense that gave up 47 to the Ravens.

Tyrod Taylor - The Saints passing defense was terrible last week and allowed 417 yards to the Bucs. I think Tyrod is a nice cheaper option at QB this week.

LeSean McCoy - Josh Allen will make his first NFL start and the Bills should rely heavily on the run today.

Kareem Hunt - This Steelers D gave up 177 rushing yards last week which ranked 30th in the league.

Dion Lewis - Dion got some good action in his first game as a member of the Titans - 16 rushing attempts and 8 targets out of the backfield. He should get similar opportunities today.

Jarvis Landry - I am all over Landry today especially with the news about Josh Gordon being released/traded. Landry had 7 receptions on 15 targets last week and 106 receiving yards.

Keenan Allen - I love by big target receivers and that’s exactly the type of guy Allen is. Rivers threw the ball 51 times last week and I expect them to throw all over the Bills today.

Emmanuel Sanders - Case Keenum spread the ball nicely between Sanders and Thomas last week. Sanders had 10 receptions, 135 yards, and a touchdown. I think he is a good value play at WR today.

George Kittle - 5 receptions for 90 yards last week against a tough Vikings defense. Today he will be up against a Lions defense that didn’t look good on Monday night.

Red Sox / Mets - No runs in the first - We have Chris Sale and Jacob deGrom pitching against each other in this game and they are the two best pitchers in baseball. No runs in the first seems like a great bet in this one.
