Good morning! It’s 6:39 a.m. on Saturday Feb 16 and I wanted to be the first news outlet to break the news that Bryce Harper has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Phillies. I don’t have all of the contract details but I would expect this to be announced publicly by the end of the weekend. Why bother posting if I don’t have all the details? Because I can and this will be documented proof that KofSports.com was the first news outlet to break the story. So let’s take a look at this projected Phillies lineup and talk about their offseason aquisitions.
2019 Proj lineup:
Andrew McCutchen OF
Jean Segura SS
Bryce Harper OF
Rhys Hoskins 1B
JT Realmuto C
Maikel Franco 3B
Odubel Herrera OF
Cesar Hernandez 2B
Aaron Nola P
That right there is a pretty fucking solid lineup. The Phillies have now signed Bryce Harper, traded for JT Realmuto, traded for Jean Segura, and signed Andrew McCutchen this offseason. Those are power moves for a team that is clearly ready to take the next step. However, as good as your lineup is, you need pitching and only two guys in their pitching rotation had winning records last season - Aaron Nola and Zach Eflin. They will need better pitching if they want to compete this season. The offseason isn’t quite over yet and there are still a few options out there for them or they could pull a trade off mid season.
This signing has got to cripple all of the Nationals fans. I mean anyone who was realistic about the situation knew that Harper was going to leave D.C. It’s one thing to lose your star player from the last seven seasons but it’s another thing to lose your star player from the last seven seasons and have them join a division rival. Well, atleast you Nats fans will be able to watch Harper play nineteen times this season (and for the balance of his contract).
What does this say about Harper? I’m sure he is just going to play the “I’m doing what’s best for me and my family” card but let’s be honest - it’s all about the money here. He is just entering the prime of his career and this was his big pay day and let me tell you, he has CASHED in. Like I said, I don’t have the details but the numbers will be huge when they are released. I’m actually surprised he waited it out this long but it was worth the wait for him and he got what he wanted.
This new look Phillies lineup should be fun to bet some overs this season depending on the pitching matchups. 4 of their 5 starters last season had an era around or above 4.00 last season. This lineup will be a tough matchup for opposing pitchers so it’s got all the makings of some nice over bets all season long.
They are currently 12-1 to win the World Series and I wouldn’t be pulling the trigger on that bet. Yeah, the aggressive offseason moves have put them in a better place but I won’t trust them until they do something about their starting pitching.
Anyways, don’t forget where you heard it first. “Suhhhhh kiiiiiiid.”
