3/29 VIP Picks

Brutal day yesterday but a realistic reminder that anything can happen in sports on any given day. Cabo hits a homerun with 2 outs in the 1st inning and it was 1 of the 2 runs scored all game. Stroman goes 7 scoreless allowing 2 hits but the Jays couldn’t get him 1 run. Chris Sale gives up as many runs in 3 innings as he did in the whole postseason last year. Finally, Purdue’s Carsten Edwards was CLEARLY out of bounds when he took the 3 point shot and got fouled with 2 seconds left against Tennessee. It sucks having days like yesterday but when you sit back and look at the things that had to happen for us to have a losing day, it really doesn’t seem that bad. We still have 8 winning nights in our last 11. We got knocked down yesterday but it’s all about getting back up today. We are all in this together, LFG.

Blazers (-3) - I love this pick tonight with how hot the Blazers have been. They have won 5 games in a row and are 8-2 in their last 10. They have gone through this hot stretch without CJ McCollum who is a key piece to their offense. The Blazers have covered -3 in 7 of those 8 wins. The Blazers should be able to do anything they want on offense tonight against this Hawks defense who ranks dead last in team defense points allowed per game this season at 118.6. Blazers should cover tonight as they continue their playoff seeding battle in the Western Conference.

Michigan State ML / North Carolina ML (-114) - great value here for the two superior teams in these matchups. Michigan State takes on LSU who fought a battle against Maryland in their last game winning by 2 points in the final seconds. Michigan State beat Maryland by 14 points earlier this season. People underestimate this Michigan State team who went 10-1 against Top 25 opponents this season. I think the Spartans get the win for us. North Carolina gets Auburn who have now won 10 games in a row after completely dominating Kansas. Auburn hit 13 three pointers in that game and they come in ranked 16th in the country in three point percentage on the season. However, North Carolina has had success against teams who are ranked Top 10 in 3 pointers - they beat 2 of them by double digits and they held 2 of them below 70 points. I think UNC will use a similar defensive strategy tonight to slow the Auburn offense down. Give me the Tarheels to come out with the victory.

7:00 EST

Blues (-1.5) - The Blues are on a mission tonight and they can clinch a playoff berth with a win. Luckily, they get to play a bad Rangers team and should win big. The Rangers have lost 7 of their last 8 and 5 of those losses have been by 3 goals or more! The Blues come in on a 4 game win streak and 3 of those wins were by 2 goals or more and the game that wasn’t was against the best team in the league. This Blues team didn’t start the season great but they are destined to clinch a playoff berth with a big win tonight.

7:10 EST

Rockies (Marquez) (-160) - Marquez had a tough outting last time he faced the Marlins giving up 5 earned runs in 3.1 innings but two of those players who did that damage are no longer on the Marlins (Realmuto, Bour). The last time Marquez pitches in Miami he only allowed 1 earned run over 6 innings. A real eye opener should be that Marquez went 7+ innings while allowing 2 or less earned runs in 9 of his final 13 starts last year. The Rockies offense got off to a good start yesterday and they should continue today against Trevor Richards who was a monthly visitor to pound town last season allowing opponents to score 5+ runs in 4 out of the 5 regular season months last season while finishing the season with a 4-9 record. Go Rockies!
