1-1 last night and definitely a let down night after a huge weekend. However, we won’t die from going 1-1. It could have still been a profitable night if we pulled the trigger on Sixers moneyline but we played it safe with the points. Astros got shut out and lost 1-0 so that was a tough loss for us. Plenty of action on the slate for today so let’s get right into today’s picks and get this week going in the right direction.
Phillies (Velasquez) / Astros (Cole) (+139) - Phillies get the Tigers tonight who have been struggling and have lost 4 games in a row while the Phillies have been hot and have won 4 of their last 5. Tyson Ross will start for the Tigers and he has allowed 4 or more runs in his last three starts. The Phillies lineup comes in with good history against Ross and they have a .316 avg & .579 slg% in 76 at bats against him. McCutchen, Segura, Harper, and Hoskins have all taken Ross deep before. Vince Velasquez will start for the Phillies tonight and don’t confuse him with John Velasquez who will be riding Code of Honor in the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. Vince has been great this season and comes in with an earned run average of 1.99. He has four straight starts where he has pitched 5+ innings while allowing 2 or less earned runs. The Tigers lineup hasn’t seen much of Velasquez in the past so I would expect his recent success to continue tonight. Phillies should get us this one. The Astros burnt us last night by getting shut out but they shouldn’t get shut out tonight with the numbers they have against Twins starter Michael Pineda. They come in with a .311 avg & .547 slg%. 6 of the 9 hitters in the Astros lineup have extra base hits against Pineda. The Stros faced Pineda a week ago and scored 4 earned runs in 5.1 innings against him in a 10-4 win. Gerrit Cole will start for the Astros and he has had a slow start to the season record wise but he has still allowed 3 earned runs or less in 4 of his 6 starts this season. The Twins lineup doesn’t have much history against him. I like the Astros to bounce back in a big way tonight. Two favorable matchups parlayed together for +139, you take that!
Celtics (+11.5) / Rockets (+9.5) - The public is all over both of these teams on the moneyline tonight so I feel like the teaser is our best option here. 66% of the public are on Celtics moneyline and 65% of the public are on the Rockets moneyline. The Celtics have been a different team in the playoffs and a big part of their success is the defense that they have been playing. They have held their playoff opponents to less than 100 points in 4 out of their 5 playoff games. That includes Game 1 of this series where they held the Bucks to 90 points. The same Bucks team who was tied for first in points per game during the regular season with 118 points per game. The Celtics won Game 1 by 22. They also beat this Bucks team in 7 in last year’s playoffs and that was without Kyrie or Hayward playing. I do think that the Bucks will play a much closer game tonight and they will probably win to even up the series at 1 but I don’t see the Celts losing by 12 or more after winning Game 1 by 22. As for the Rockets, the NBA has already admitted that Game 1 was fixed and I know a lot of you think I make this stuff up so you can see the article about it HERE if you missed it. Scott Foster has been assigned to ref tonight’s game and there is some bad history between him, Harden, and Paul but I think the NBA is letting the refs know that they need to even this series up tonight. Call me crazy and say that shit doesn’t happen but look back over the years and there is plenty of evidence that this goes on. If the Rockets don’t win this game outright, I think it will be close right until the finish. We get the Rockets at +9.5 with the teaser and I don’t see them having any issues covering that tonight.
Sharks / Avalanche Over (6) - JACKHAMMER - All five games between these two teams have gone over 6 this season with scores of 5-4, 4-3, 5-2, 5-2, and 4-3. Not that it matters where the games were played because they have all gone over 6 but only 1 of the 5 matchups between these two were played in Colorado and that was the highest scoring one of them all at 5-4. Thin air? Less defense? Maybe. All I know is that both of these teams play eachother at a fast pace and get the fucking puck on net. That’s exactly what we need for another OVER between these two teams tonight. LFG.
