I did not see the Verlander meltdown coming yesterday. I think he got flustered right off the bat when Pham took him deep in the first. Even with that, the Astros didn’t hit at all either. Props to the Rays for a complete team performance in Game 4 because that has set us up a nice opportunity for a JACKHAMMER tomorrow night 😜 But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. The Preds win big to move our NHL record to 7-1 on the season and salvage the day a little even though there was some juice on the moneyline. Let’s see what we have for tonight.
Cardinals / Braves Under (7.5) - We had this same pitching matchup in Game 2 and the final score was 3-0. Mike Foltynewicz went 7 scoreless innings while only allowing 3 hits and Jack Flaherty went 7 innings while only allowing 3 runs. Flaherty has held this Braves lineup to a .228 avg in 92 career at bats. Flaherty has allowed 2 earned runs or less in 15 of his last 17 starts. Folty has held this Cards lineup to a .256 avg in 156 at bats which isn’t bad but his performance in Game 2 really sticks out for this matchup. Folty is also 5-1 with a 1.69 ERA in his last 9 starts and he is on a 20 inning scoreless streak at home. 3 of the 4 games in this series would have gone under if it was for the 7 run 9th inning in Game 1. I like the under trends for this game tonight.
Nationals / Dodgers Under (7) - Stephen Strasburg against Walker Buehler plus all hands on deck out of the pen including Clayton Kershaw. Strasburg went 6 innings while only allowing 1 run in a 4-2 win in Game 2. Buehler went 6 scoreless innings against the Nats in a 6-0 win in Game 1. Both games that these starters have started in this series have gone under 7. Strasburg has only allowed 3 earned runs in 19 innings against the Dodgers this season while Buehler has only allowed 4 earned runs in 18.1 innings against the Nationals this season. Strasburg has held this Dodgers lineup to a .184 avg in 141 at bats while Buehler has held the Nats lineup to a .218 avg in 78 at bats. The Dodgers lineup has the ability to go off but I’m confident in the numbers that both pitchers have against the opposing lineups. 3 of the 4 games in this series have gone under or pushed at 7. Give me the under.
Flyers (-125) - The Flyers come in 1-0 and the Devils come in 0-1-1. Right off the bat in this one I like the fact that the Devils allowed 5 goals in their first loss to the Jets and 7 goals in their second loss to the Sabres. The Flyers scored 4 goals in their first game and they should be able to take advantage of the defensive struggles the Devils have shown in their first two games. The Devils Coach has even called his team out for playing, “soft.” This will be the Flyers home opener since they played their first game in Prague last Friday. They have had plenty of time to get settled back in to their time zone and I like them to get the win for us tonight.
