Some days just aren’t your days and yesterday was one of those days. Not much else to say about that. We went for a couple of underdogs and they didn’t work out for us. Then the refs called the photo above a touchdown which cost us the Packers -4. Such a joke. Let’s see what we have tonight to get the week going in the right direction.
Astros (Cole) (-144) - JACKHAMMER - you guys who have been around for a while know how much I rely on analytics for the picks. It’s not often that I make a gut reaction on a game but that’s how I feel about this game today. I feel like this is a huge spot for Luis Severino and I don’t think he’s ready for it. He has looked great in the four starts he has made this season but he has not gone more than 5 innings and those starts were against the Angels, Blue Jays, Rangers, and Twins. This Astros lineup is on another level than those teams. Before this year, Severino had 6 Postseason starts and here are the ERAs he posted in those games in order - 81.00 (not a typo), 7.36, 5.56, 5.63, 0.00, & 7.71. The playoffs have not been kind to him. This is a huge game against a very good Astros lineup and I just have a sense that they will get to Severino today. The Astros are hitting just under .270 lifetime against Severino. Backing my gut feeling about Severino is Gerrit Cole who has been DOMINANT in his last two starts tossing 15.2 innings and racking up 25 strikeouts while only allowing 1 earned run. Cole has held this powerful Yankees lineup to a .222 avg in 72 career at bats. I like the Astros to take the series lead today.
Maple Leafs (-1.5) - The Leafs had a 3 game losing streak but they snapped that streak their last time out with a 5-2 win over the Red Wings. The Leafs have had a few days off to rest up for this one while the Wild will be playing the second night of a back to back. The Wild got their first win of the season last night but they are still just 1-4 this season and all 4 of their losses have come by multiple goals. I like the fresh Leafs to come out and get this win for us tonight.
Predators / Golden Knights Over (6.5) - Both of these teams have been playing high scoring games this season and 8 of the last 10 combined games have gone over 6.5 for these two teams. Look at the goal totals in the Pred’s games this season - 11, 11, 7, 8, & 7. Both of these teams are averaging more than 4 goals per game and I love this over at 6.5 tonight!
