VIP Picks 4/6/24

1-2 Friday but our MLB losses had the teams go just 3 for 27 with runners in scoring position. We are just about even on the week going into today so no harm no foul with the Final Four upon us and a nice Saturday Sunday 1 2 punch away from a winning week. We go into the Final Four 64% on the season which is our best College Basketball season ever, let’s finish it strong! Doing the ranking a little differently today with ranking on the early slate and late slate.

Early

MLB:

2:15 EST

Cardinals (Matz) (-148) 🥉

  • The Cardinals got the win in game one of this series thanks to the bad bullpen of the Marlins. That could be the case again today but they should also get to the starter.

  • Trevor Rogers will start for the Marlins and he gave up 4 runs in 5 innings his last time out. There’s not a lot of head to head history for the Cards vs Rogers but we will take our chances vs him & feel pretty good about them scoring runs late vs the bullpen.

  • Steven Matz will pitch for the Cardinals and he only allowed 2 runs to the Dodgers over 5.1 innings in his last start. He’s also held this Marlins lineup to a .194 avg in a small sample size.

  • The Marlins are 0-8, the last winless team in the league.

4:05 EST

Orioles (-132) 🥈

  • The Orioles took the first game of this series yesterday with a 5-2 win and they have another good matchup today.

  • They will face Pirates starter Bailey Falter who got teed off on by the Marlins his last start where he allowed 6 runs in 4 innings pitched. Falter has had a 5+ ERA in 3 of his first 4 seasons at the MLB level.

  • Another underestimated factor is that 3 of the Pirates 4 catchers are injured so they have a guy with less than half a season under his belt calling pitches.

  • Tyler Wells will start for the Orioles and he’s held the guys in this Pirates lineup to 1 for 22 lifetime.

  • Wells lost his first start but he pitched 6 innings and had 7 strikeouts.

Hit Parlay

Mookie Betts Hit / Corey Seager Hit (-131) 🥇

  • Mook is raking and has hit safely in 9 of his 10 games this season.

  • He’s hitting .428 vs lefties this season and .297 vs lefties in his career.

  • Corey Seager is facing JP France who he comes in 3 for 5 against with 2 homeruns.

  • Seager has hit safely in 5 of his 6 games this season and 5 of the 7 games vs the Astros in the playoffs last year.

Late

NC State / Purdue Under (146.5) 🥇

  • We cashed the under in Purdue’s last game and we are going back to it tonight.

  • NC State only scored 21 points in the 1st half vs Duke in their last game.

  • Both defenses have held their opponents to point totals that would go under this number in regulation games.

  • Purdue’s 7’4 Zach Edey will make it tough on anyone even DJ Burns to score inside in this game. No easy buckets.

  • I love the NC St story this year but I can really see Purdue shutting them down here.

8:49 EST

Team Total

Alabama Over (74.5) 🥈

  • Alabama has one way to hang around in this game and that is to shoot (and make) a lot of three pointers.

  • Bama will have a hard time inside vs 7’2 Clingan but look for them to take a similar fire away from deep approach like they did vs Purdue earlier in the year when they scored 86 points.

  • Bama hit their threes at 37% this season and ranked 1st in scoring with 90.6 ppg.

  • Now add in that Bama doesn’t have the defense to stop UConn and we get a recipe for a high scoring game.

  • If UConn pulls away like the spread suggests then this team total will hit even easier because their defensive intensity will lighten up late.
