VIP Picks 11/7/23

2-2 start to the week. Not sure what the Clippers were up to and it was a struggle for the Celtics last night. When you miss 18 three pointers, 10 lay ups, and 8 free throws and come up 5 points short of the over it’s a tough pill to swallow. On the bright side, the Oilers and Canucks went over 1.5 in the first as expected and we actually lucked out with the Ekeler prop. If you missed it, the Chargers forced a fumble on Wilson and took it to the house but was ruled as stepping out at the 2 yard line. At that point, we needed 2 yards from Ekeler to go over 46.5 and we got it, he finished with 47! No NBA at all tonight but a ton of NHL games. Let’s see what we can put together for tonight.

NHL:

7:30 EST

Rangers (-150)

  • The Rangers have been one of the best teams in the league to this point playing to an 8-2-1 record and that’s pretty impressive because 8 of those 11 games have been road games.

  • They will be home tonight and host the Red Wings who have lost 3 of their last 5

  • Ville Husso will be in net for the Red Wings and he’s allowed 3.37 GA/G

  • The Rangers haven’t named their starter yet but both of them have been better than Husso with 2.36 and 1.42 GA/G

  • The Rangers are dealing with some injuries but It seems like a good spot to back them at home

Team Total

Baylor Over (73.5)

  • Baylor lost their top 3 scorers from last season when they averaged 77.2 ppg but they’ve added some talent to reload during the offseason

  • RayJ Dennis is a 6’2 guard coming over from Toledo. He’s a Senior and is coming off of a season where he was the MAC Player of the Year averaging 19.5 ppg. Baylor also added 5 star freshman Ja’Kobe Walter, 4 star freshman Miro Little, 4 star freshman Yves Missi, and Jayden Nunn from VCU.

  • Auburn lost some guys too but their rebounders return and they ranked 323rd in defensive rebounding last season so that should create offensive rebounds and easy put backs for Baylor in this game tonight.

  • I also expect this to be a faster paced game and with some new freshman stepping into roles on each side, there should be some turnovers that lead to easy buckets as well.

  • Let’s go with Baylor to go over 73.5. This should also be one of the best games of the weeks and will be on ESPN.

Parlay

Northern Illinois ML / Ohio ML (-135)

  • We’ve gone 9-3 in our last 12 MID WEEK MACTION plays dating back to 2021 so let’s jump back in with this parlay tonight.

  • Northern Illinois will host 2-7 Ball St and NIU has won 3 of their last 4 games.

  • Ball State is 0-5 on the road this season

  • Ball State runs the ball 70% of the time and although NIU has struggled to stop the run, it should be a different story when they know it’s coming tonight.

  • NIU has a more balanced attack on offense and they’ve shown more flashes this season than Ball State.

  • Then we have Ohio led by Senior QB Kurtis Rourke who threw for 5 touchdowns on Buffalo last year in a 45-24 win. Buffalo’s pass defense looks good on paper but that’s because they have only played a few teams who have actually tried to throw the ball. I expect Rourke to have success through the air tonight just like last year despite the wind in the forecast of 12 mph with gusts up to 22 mph. Buffalo’s defense also got ran all over in 2 of their last 3 games so Ohio should be able to get the ground game going as well.

  • Ohio should get the win for us
