VIP Picks 3/7/24

The week is starting to slide a bit after another losing 1-2 night last night. We just need to do our best to chip away and still have today through Sunday to make up for it!

We are just 3-6 on PGA plays this season but we have gone 3-1 on round matchup plays. Our struggles have come with round props, outright tourney winners, and finishing position bets. So let’s go for a solid matchup play today for Round 1 of the Arnold Palmer Invitational.

1:20 EST

Rory McIlroy Over Collin Morikawa (-155)

We’ve got a little bit of juice on this one at -155 but I’d rather play that than take a spread because if they tie, it’s a push. Rory has really good history at this event finishing 2nd last year and then 13, 10, 5, and 6 the four years before that. Morikawa on the other hand missed the cut last year, didn’t even play in the event a couple years before that, had a 9 and 64 finish years before that. As far a recent events, Morikawa has played better than Rory but I just love the history that Rory has at Bay Hill compared to what Morikawa has been able to do here. I’m just betting 1 unit to win .64 to hopefully start our Thursday off with a win.

Panthers ML / Oilers ML (-112) 🥈

  • The Panthers are now on a 16-2 run over their last 18 games and really rolling right now. They will be home tonight and hosting the Flyers who have lost 3 of their last 5 and have allowed 14 goals in those 3 losses.

  • Bobrovsky is projected to be in net for the Panthers and he’s 3rd best in the league in goals against per game this season at 2.29. Look for him to stand strong and the Panthers put up 3+ vs the Flyers.

  • The Oilers are rolling right now as well on a 5 game winning streak and 7-2-1 over their last 10. They will be on the road vs the Blue Jackets who are not rolling right now at 2-3 over their last 5.

  • The Oilers beat the Blue Jackets 4-1 earlier this season and we can expect them to get another win against them tonight.

Team Total

Heat Over (112.5) 4️⃣

  • The Mavericks haven’t been playing much defense in recent games and they have allowed their opponents to go over 112.5 in 7 straight games with point totals of 137, 120, 138, 125, 121, 133, & 113 for an average of 126 during that stretch.

  • The Heat have “flipped the switch” so to say and they have gone 9-2 over their last 11 games.

  • Their offense has gone over 112.5 in 3 of their last 5 games.

  • I expect the game to be played at a faster pace because that’s what the Mavs like to do and I like the Heat to go over 112.5 whether they win or lose this game.

9:10 EST

Suns ML / Warriors ML / Kings ML (-127) 🥇

  • The Suns are coming off of a great win against the Nuggets the other night and they will return home to host the 23-39 Raptors tonight. Booker is still out but KD, Beal, & Allen should carry the load as far as the scoring goes. The Raptors are going to be without Scottie Barnes, Jakob Poeltl, & Bruce Brown so the Suns will still have the better team on the floor even without Booker.

  • The Warriors will host the Bulls and both teams are on the second night of a back to back. The Warriors blew out the Bucks last night so they got to rest the starters down the stretch in the 4th. The Warriors are still surging and have gone 12-3 over their last 15 games. They also scored 140 against the Bulls in their only other game against them this season.

  • The Kings are on the second night of a back to back and they are coming off of a win against the Lakers last night. They will host the 13-49 Spurs tonight who they have gone 2-0 against this season. The Spurs are also just 1-10 in their last 11 road games.
