VIP Picks 5/8/24

3-0 start to the week and +3.27 units so feeling fucking good going into Wednesday!

MLB:

2:20 EST

Padres / Cubs NO runs in the 1st

  • Dylan Cease against Hayden Wesneski are going head to head today and they both rank in the Top 20 in ERA in the league.

  • Cease comes in with 6 straight starts with 6+ innings pitched and he’s allowed 2 or less earned runs in 5 of those 6 starts so he has been pitching great. He did go NO runs in the 1st against the Cubs already this season.

  • Wesneski comes in only allowing 1 earned run in 10.1 innings pitched this season. He’s coming off of a start where he pitched 6.1 scoreless innings. Machado is 2 for 2 with a homerun against him so we need to watch out for that but Machado went 0 for 4 with 3 strikeouts yesterday.

  • On top of the good starting pitchers, we have the wind blowing in from right center at 10 mph at the start of this game so any fly balls will be held up a bit protecting against the long ball.

Machado's ears were ringing.........he had the RBI to hand us the early loss. No worries, we just need to go 2-0 tonight to come out with a winning day. Here we go:

MLB:

7:05 EST

Yankees (Rodon) (-155) 💪 or (-1) 🥇

  • The Yankees smoked the Astros last night 10-3 and they have another good matchup tonight.

  • Spencer Spaghetti I mean Arrighetti (auto correct stepped in the first time I typed but but I’m leaving it for the post) will pitched for the Astros and he comes in with a 14.85 ERA on the road this season so facing a hot Yankees lineup in Yankee Stadium sounds like some meatballs. See what I did there?

  • Carlos Rodon is going to pitch for the Yankees and he got knocked around his last time out but other than that he’s been pretty good this season including a 7-1 win against the Astros early on in the season.

  • Let’s take the Yankees at home tonight.

NHL:

10:00 EST

1st Period

Oilers / Canucks Over (1.5) 🥈

  • 3 of the 4 regular season games went over 1.5 in the 1st period and it feels like a good bet for Game 1 tonight.

  • The Oilers have gone over 1.5 in the 1st in 4 of their last 5 games

  • It’s Stuart Skinner in net for the Oilers and he allowed 14 goals in 2.5 games against them this season.

  • The Canucks will have their third string goalie in net who is young and has put together a couple nice games but now he’s got to face the #4 ranked offense in the league in the Oilers.

  • It’s Game 1 of the series so both teams should come out more aggressive than they will as we get later into the series.
