VIP Picks 7/9/24

Solid Monday whether you took the moneyline as a strong play or the run line. The Reds went on to win 6-0 so it was an easy winner for us to start the final week before the All Star Break. Let’s keep it going tonight.

MLB:

6:45 EST

Guardians (Lively) (-142) 🥈

  • Oh Maeda Kenta Maeda is pitching for the Tigers tonight and comes in 2-5 with a 6.71 ERA. This Guardians lineup scored 7 runs in 2 innings the last time they faced him on 5/7 and they come in hitting .304 against him lifetime in a solid sample size of 56 at bats.

  • Ben Lively will pitch for the Guardians who I have seen out there doing good things but I’ve been hesitant to take him to this point but he continues to turn in good starts. He’s posted an 8-4 record and a 3.14 ERA to this point plus this Tigers lineup is just 3 for 14 off of him lifetime.

  • The Tigers have won 4 in a row but I think the Guardians will snap that streak tonight.

8:10 EST

Red Sox (Bello) ML / Astros (Blanco) ML (+109)🥇

  • The Red Sox have a lot of momentum coming off of winning 3 of 4 against the Yankees over the weekend.

  • The Sox bats will face Joey Estes who is 1-3 with a 7.00 era on the road this season so he should be putting the ball on a tee in a hot and humid Fenway Park tonight.

  • Brayan Bello is pitching for the Sox and his changeup was back on in his last start and he only allowed 1 run over 6.1 innings. He made 2 mistakes against the A’s earlier this season and gave up a couple homeruns but the Red Sox still ended up winning that game.

  • The Astros will return home from their road trip and they have been better at home than on the road this season.

  • 8-3 Ronel Blanco will pitch for the Astros and he's 5th in the league with a 2.53 ERA this season. He hasn’t faced this Marlins lineup before but I’m liking the 5th ranked ERA pitcher in the league going up against the 2nd worst scoring lineup in the league.

  • 1-9 Trevor Rogers will take the ball for the Marlins and you can’t have much motivation when you are 1-9 as a pitcher before the All Star break other than knowing that you get a few days off to drink beer because you aren’t good enough to be part of the All Start game. The Astros have never faced him but they’ve scored 5+ runs in 6 of their last 7 home games so look for the bats to be good enough to get the win.
