Ole Miss vs Texas Preview and Prediction: Can the Rebels Win in Austin?

Recent results point toward Ole Miss in tonight’s SEC showdown. The Rebels have responded to their only loss with 2 emphatic wins while Texas enters after consecutive defeats. Our Ole Miss vs Texas prediction is an outright Rebels victory, with Trinidad Chambliss and an improving rushing attack giving the visitors a credible path to control the game.

Ole Miss (5–1, 3–1 SEC) visits Texas (4–2, 1–2 SEC) on Saturday, October 24. Kickoff is 7:30 p.m. ET / 6:30 p.m. CT at Darrell K Royal–Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin, with coverage on ABC.

The pick: Ole Miss moneyline. Score prediction: Ole Miss 30, Texas 24.

Recent Results Favor Ole Miss

Ole Miss beat Vanderbilt 52–17 on October 10 then dismantled Missouri 31–3 on October 17. That is an 83–20 combined score across the last 2 games, a 63-point margin that reflects improvement on both sides of the ball. The Rebels have scored at least 31 points in 5 of their 6 games this season.

Texas has gone the other direction. The Longhorns lost 27–24 to Oklahoma and followed that with a 27–24 home loss to Florida. Those were competitive games so this is not a team to dismiss. Still, Texas needs to turn close opportunities into wins, while Ole Miss arrives with 2 convincing performances behind it.

The Rushing Game Gives the Rebels Another Route to Win

The Missouri result was especially encouraging because Ole Miss did more than rely on its quarterback. The Rebels rushed for 257 yards and held the Tigers to 39. Kewan Lacy gained 122 yards on 16 carries, while Makhi Frazier added 101 on 15 attempts. Ole Miss averaged 6.7 yards per carry as a team.

Chambliss completed 20 of 36 passes for 241 yards, threw 3 touchdown passes and added a rushing touchdown. That combination is central to our pick: if Texas takes away an explosive pass, Ole Miss still has ways to move the chains. A productive ground game would also help the Rebels avoid predictable passing situations in a loud road environment.

Protection Could Decide the Matchup

Ole Miss enters allowing 0.83 sacks per game, the fewest in the SEC and 10th fewest nationally according to its official game preview. Keeping Chambliss upright gives the passing game time to develop and limits the negative plays that can derail road possessions.

Our expectation is that Ole Miss will mix early runs with manageable throws rather than require Chambliss to rescue repeated third-and-long situations. Texas can change that script by winning first down and forcing the Rebels to chase the game. For Ole Miss, staying on schedule is more important than trying to reproduce last week’s margin.

Why Texas Remains Dangerous

Texas opened 4–0, including a 24–23 victory over Ohio State and a 20–17 win at Tennessee. Those results show why the Longhorns remain capable of beating a strong opponent. Playing in Austin also makes this a more difficult assignment than Ole Miss’s recent home win.

The clearest warning for the Rebels is their own 52–28 loss at Florida on September 26. Two strong games do not erase that performance. If Texas sustains drives and forces Ole Miss to trade touchdowns throughout the night, the visitors will have a much smaller margin for error. Our pick depends on the Rebels carrying their recent balance and defensive discipline into this road test.

Ole Miss vs Texas Best Bet and Final Prediction

We favor Ole Miss to win because its most recent performances offer the stronger combination of offensive flexibility and defensive resistance. The Rebels do not need another blowout. They need enough early-down success to protect Chambliss, a few timely defensive stops and a clean finish.

Texas should keep this competitive but we expect Ole Miss to produce the more dependable offense over 4 quarters. Our best bet is Ole Miss moneyline, with a final score prediction of Ole Miss 30 Texas 24. Compare current prices and keep the stake measured; recent results support the pick without guaranteeing the outcome.
